About This Item

The one that started it all. Designed by George Steers to race against 13 British yachts for the Hundred Guinea Cup in Cowes, England in 1851. The International regatta was held on August 22nd and sponsored by the Royal Yacht Squadron as part of the celebration for the World's Fair. America soundly beat all 13 of the British fleet and was awarded the cup, later to be called the America's Cup in her honor.
