About This Item

Head of King Tutankhamen
Egyptian, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, reign of Tutankhamen, 1336-1327 BC.
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Gift of Miss Mary S. Ames, 1911
Accession number: 11.1533

This head is from a sandstone statue of Tutankhamen wearing the names headdress and the low double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. The slit on the forehead is for an insertion of the serpent, now missing. Although Tutankhamen was remembered as a minor ruler, the "boy-king's" small tomb preserved its fabulous treasures virtually intact. The museum had a sculptor create a rendition of the original and then had it cast in a resin reproduction.

6 1/2" h x 3" w.
