About This Item

Anne C. Ross Glass created the "Public Garden" pattern in 2010 and it is available exclusively at the MFA.

From its inception in 1837, the Boston Public Garden, America's first public botanical garden, was decorative and flowery. The Victorian traditions used in it's creation are maintained for the most part, and the Garden is one of Boston's great attractions with its rich and unusual plants, the Lagoon, monuments and fountains, and the Swan Boats created and operated for over 100 years by the Paget family.

Anne C. Ross Glass, a division of Pairpoint Glass, is located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where each piece is handcrafted by the artist. Mrs. Ross sifts her design onto pieces of glass. By the use of a series of hand-cut stencils, she accurately reproduces her delicate designs. Once decorated, another piece of glass is placed atop the first, and the piece is placed upon a ceramic mold and fired to 1500 degrees in a kiln. After cooling overnight, each piece is ground, cleaned and individually signed by Anne C. Ross. The resulting pieces of art glass may be used as formal or informal dinnerware, or may simply be displayed for their inherent beauty. Each piece is dishwasher safe, but not microwavable.

10" diameter.
