This pillow was inspired by the blue and white vases in John Singer Sargent's The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit.

The giant blue and white porcelain vases are the only furnishings that survived from the time of the portrait. These beloved vases of the Boits travelled back and forth across the Atlantic more than a dozen times, providing the family with a constant symbol of home. The large vases remained treasured possessions of the Boits and now stand in the MFA gallery near the painting.
