About This Item

Lotus blossoms, graceful bamboos, pools filled with silvery fish: an expansive garden lures guests from a grand house to rest in the shade of a palm tree or linger on the shore of an artificial lake. These twelve paintings, the work of an unknown artist from the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736–1795), convey the leisure world of Beijing’s wealthiest men and women at the height of the Qing dynasty.
