Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) revived the art of making stained glass, creating new compounds that allowed him to expand the medium’s physical and aesthetic characteristics. His revolutionary designs, at once brilliant and subtle, exemplify Art Nouveau, the highly decorative style that gained global popularity at the turn of the twentieth century. Tiffany’s superb handcraftsmanship, artistic innovation, and reverence for natural beauty combined to make him one of the most influential designers of the past two centuries.
