About This Item

Alexandra B. Huff and Frederic A. Sharf with Phil French and Morton Kaish

Images of fashion exploded in the twentieth century. With the introduction of photography as a medium for fashion advertising, artists who worked by hand began to emphasize interpretation and impression over the pure likeness of garments. They were free to exaggerate the proportions of figures, devise ingenious ways to depict textiles and textures, and situate their creations in idealized locales. These three overlapping interests - figure, fabric and fantasy - are explored here in the work of more than twenty-five fashion artists.
