It is generally acknowledged that the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has the largest and most impressive collections of Japanese art outside of Japan as well as what is probably the most comprehensive collection of Asian art in the world. Begun in 1890, the Boston collection has grown and improved through the years by virtue of generous donations of superb collections and through judicious purchases made by expert curators.
