David Hockney Portraits

David Hockney Portraits
February 26 - May 14, 2006
Gund Gallery

Throughout his artistic career, David Hockney has enthusiastically embraced portraiture to create a visual diary of family, friends, lovers, and himself. This pivotal exhibition brings together more than one hundred portraits of one of the world's most eminent contemporary artists.

Since his career began more than fifty years ago, Hockney has conciously chosen to use people and situations from his life in his art. In a progression of large oil paintings, drawings, photo-collages, etchings, lithographs, and photocopy images, he has documented close friends and intimate relationships as well as a parade of sitters to his various studios and homes. The exhibition, the first devoted solely to Hockney's portraiture, premiered at the MFA.
